Irish Mark of Electrical Conformity (IMEC)

The Irish Mark of Electrical Conformity is a certification mark equivalent to the Irish Standard Mark but aimed directly at the safety of electrical and electronic products. As the name implies, this Mark, usable only with the authority of the NSAI, may be applied to products that comply with a range of electrical standards including, but not limited to, Irish standards. The additional factor of its being applicable to other standards, such as European and world-wide standards, makes this form of certification of particular value.

IMEC has been notified to the European Union as the Irish Mark of Electrical Conformity under the Low Voltage Directive, and products bearing the Mark may not be excluded from European Union Member States on the grounds of its not bearing the Safety Mark of the importing State. Manufacturers may continue to apply the IMEC after 1st January 1997, when CE marking under the Low Voltage Directive becomes mandatory.

In the case of electric cables, the Irish Cable Mark is the appropriate symbol to be applied to the cable itself. The Irish Mark of Electrical Conformity is simultaneously awarded in such cases.
